designer profile: Alice McCall

AW13 'The Imaginarium of Kitty LeRoy'

Alice McCall's character for AW13 is an entrancing vegabond, a girl of mystery & all things exotic. A confluence of two unexpected world's: Alice's illumination for The Imaginarium came from a melding of 1980's & glamorous world casinos with the exotic allure of Orientalism of the 1940's.

Decidedly, Oriental air is visible through bold peacock embroidery, kimono jackets & metallic brocade detail on Origami-like folded garments. Silhouettes are indulgent & bohemian- a kimono jacket hangs leisurely, as folk dresses swing naively, & embellishment is the key to the collection's magnetism. Vast & accomplished; flocking, quilting, embroidery, beading, cutwork & wadding make each piece as special as the next.

The Imaginarium is a beguiling & striking amalgamation of two worlds, where each piece is in a way like a talismanic keepsake- timeless, special & exquisite..
