designer profile: ALICE MCCALL

"She came in very slowly, looking like a moonbeam in grey lace..."

Oscar Wilde's decadent novelette 'The Sphinx Without a Secret' is the romantic inspiration behind Alice McCall's latest offering for Spring 2012.

Art Nouveau references weave fluidly through the collection, Curved lines, flowing jacquard, rhythmic floral embroidery & starry eyed lace creep like ancient ivy across sharply cut silhouettes. The silhouettes are sharp yet feminine- peplum waists, lampshade skirts, bustier & bodycon lines modernize the romanticism.

Part whimsical, part daring, the collection is yet another for Alice McCall overflowing with capricious, playful aesthetic the label is synonymous for.

"Women are Sphinxes without Secrets..."
- Oscar Wilde
